Making changing portraits is a very difficult process and the lens reveals changes quite differently than a gif or flash animation does. There is so much that can go wrong between the art concept and finished product. If the character has not been designed correctly the final assembled portrait will have problems that a flash animation will not show, i.e. the first stage being visible in the second, especially when objects are supposed to appear or disappear. (My headless woman "Aunt Gretchen" was very a tricky character to make and required a lot of testing to perfect her).
While this video footage is presented in animated gif format (to ensure that it is compatible with all computers) the CONTENT is from my video camera. Some clips have been slowed down to give you a better look at the changes. You will notice that most characters have multiple stages, not just a "before" and "after." These extra details are what make my changing portraits stand head and shoulders above the others!
Unfortunately my video camera is not digital, so they do not appear as sharp and clear as they do in real life, but you can see how they change and that is the important thing. Here is one example:
For your convenience, video clips for all characters can be found near the bottom of their individual pages in the Gallery. YOU WILL NOT FIND THEM HERE! This page is merely to explain what they are and redirect your attention to where you can find them.
DON'T RELY ON GIF ANIMATIONS ALONE!
Above you can see a gif animation of "Uncle Percy," but when buying a changing portrait do not be fooled by a smooth on-line animation! Anyone can make an effective gif or flash animation of changing portrait artwork if they have the software to do so. And when gif or flash files do not feature the actual finished product, it can be extremely misleading to the consumer.
